We specialise in pet supplies for all pets including dogs, cats, birds, small animals, fish and reptiles. However, I will say that the Trixie plastic wheels have actually improved slightly with a few modifications.

It came with replacement cork, but I don't see how you would replace the cork since whatever adhesive they used is very strong. At first we thought he really liked it but recently my OH who goes to bed late has said he’s just been sitting staring at it and when my OH has sat down next to the cage to say hi, Ham has come forward and chewed the plastic cover, so my OH took it upon himself to remove the cover and after a few sniffs investigating, Hams jumped in and off he went, running. Without one, you might notice disturbing behaviours such as gnawing at the bars on their cage and chewing their own skin and hair.Due to hamsters living in a cage and being given free food by you, there’s a very real chance they could become obese without a wheel! This plastic hamster wheel features a solid plastic running surface with reinforcements making it both safe for your hamster and easy to grip. Niteangel and Carolina wheels have large open plastic wheels and Rodipet does one which isn't a good design for a Syrian, in my opinion. This humongous 28cm Ferris Wheel from Trixie is a phenomenal addition to an extra-large hamster cage and provides plenty of benefits for your porky rodent.

The cork may also absorb urine so I painted it with a few coats of clear Plastikote Project Enamel to protect it.

This is a great improvement on a previous design that was temporarily sold and then removed by Pets at Home where the wheel had wooden slats and it was reported that it caused a bloody injury to a hamsters foot. The Hamster loving community get frustrated to see tiny wheels being advertised as suitable for both Dwarf and Syrian Hamsters (This is probably because it would only fit a tiny cheap cage). Wooden wheels are also available and usually the quietest, however, they require varnishing to prevent stains and don’t last as long. He runs for much longer and I bet this is one of the reasons why – for a fully grown syrian hamster this product is 10/10.
